The enthusiasm for a noble game of cricket is shared by all Pakistanis; whether it is the adolescents playing in the streets, elderly men talking about the play at length or ladies cheering for their teams. Similar passion for one of the signature event of Red Club: RPL is always seen amidst the employees of TRG. Keeping this in mind, RED Club yet again hosted the much awaited RED Premier League (RPL 2016) – Season 4, a tape ball tournament, to evoke feelings of happiness, competition and teamwork among the ardent fans of cricket at TRG. It was an action packed two days sports extravaganza at Aleem Dar Cricket Academy on 17th & 24th December 2016. In this tournament, eighteen teams including two female teams participated from all entities of TRG. All the participating teams were divided in to four different pools; each team played two pool matches. Out of the sixteen teams (male), four teams qualified for the semi-finals and the two semi-finalists battled for the title of Winners in the final and an absolute thrilling match of RPL 2016 – Season 4. The event kicked start with high energy and enthusiasm and even though there was fog and minimum visibility the scheduled teams were in the ground right on time! Despite the cold weather, the players, the teams, the ground staff and the RED Club Management were all in for the love of Cricket and RPL – Season 4, and not only the participants and organizers, the audience and the spectators were there as well to witness this cricket fiesta. One of the special features of RPL 2016 – Season 4 was the Lucky Draws that were held for the audience throughout the event and during the ceremony. There were exciting prizes related to Sports gear including Pakistan Cricket merchandize and were given to the lucky draw winners. Apart from the fun through the lucky draws there was certain energy and cheerfulness in the air after every Six, Boundary or a Wicket! And that energy was amplified by the live commentary coupled with the sound of DJ. The commentators; Mujtaba Haroon, Ali Adnan, Umair Butt & Adnan Hassan gets the credit for lifting up energy and enthusiasm in the audience and especially the players on field while not to forget the funny jokes and interesting discussions kept the atmosphere delightful and cheerful. Red Club also arranged food on both the days of the event for the participating players and organizing members. Biryani was served from one of Lahore’s favorite Biryani spot. A cold and chilly day without tea wouldn’t be complete therefore with the assistance of Admin, tea was arranged for everyone in the ground. Another aspect of RPL is to ensure transparency and fair play; therefore services of neutral and professional umpires and scorer were rendered from Aleem Dar Cricket Academy. Before the commencement of the final match, National Anthem was played with both the finalists, umpires and the organizers standing aligned in the center of the ground. “Warid Warriors” won the tournament after a fierce competition with the “Royal Tigers” in the final match after taking lead from “Knowledge Monsters” and “Renegades” respectively in the semi-finals. Out of the two female cricket teams, team “Deviants” won the match after beating “UB Super Sixers”. The most amazing memory of RPL- season 4 was the un-stoppable batting of Adnan Williams from the team “Warid Warriors”; he scored 117 runs with the help of 17 sixes of just 30 balls and remained ‘Not Out’. Adnan was also declared “Man of the Series” for RPL 2016 – Season 4. At the end of the tournament, an award ceremony was arranged and all the audience and participants were part of it. All the male and female players of Winner and Runner-up Teams were awarded with gold and silver medals respectively. A Shield was awarded to the Male runner-up team captain while the Trophies were raised by each of the winning captains of male and female teams. The entire event was covered with photography by Sheheryar Abid and Umair Hassan and the pictures will be shared by Red Club in form of collages. In the end, a very special thanks and appreciation for each member of the Red Club: Fatima Khawaja, Syeda Bakhtawar, Jawad Abid, Adnan Hassan, Usman Naeem, and Arslan Ahmed for planning and executing an amazing event. Certainly not to forget the organizing volunteers; Sheheryar Abid, Umair Hassan, Aqeel Shahid, Zaheer Awan, Mujtaba Haroon, Admin Team and Shahbaz Office Boy, without their hard work and support, this event wouldn’t have been a success! Red Club Members are elated to know that people are already looking forward to the next season of RPL, a signature event of the Red Club, and that is all what matters to keep us motivated and moving forward!
